About Night+

Night+ is our most advanced lens, made for the hours after sunset when artificial light is still telling your brain it is daytime.

It blocks 99.9% of blue light and 99.9% of green light up to 570nm, the wavelengths most associated with melatonin suppression. It also blocks 87% of all light, so the intensity reaching your eyes falls as well as the colour. Most blue light glasses only address the colour.

Wear them for the last two hours before bed to support your body’s natural wind down. Works with your biology, not against it.

The science

Light after sunset keeps your body in daytime mode.

Your body keeps time by light. Screens and indoor lighting after dark tell it the day isn’t over, so melatonin, the hormone that signals night, is held back. It is one reason you can feel tired but wired. Three things decide how much of that signal gets through.

Night+Red lens

What reaches your eyes from a 5000K LED, with and without the lens

Night+ red lens. Blocks 99.9% of blue light and 99.9% of green light. About 13% of all light passes through.

Your body keeps time by light. Screens and indoor lighting after dark tell it the day isn’t over, so melatonin, the hormone that signals night, is held back. It is one reason you can feel tired but wired. Three things decide how much of that signal gets through.

Blue Light
Light from 400 to 500nm, the best known trigger for melatonin suppression.
Green Light
From 500 to 570nm. Often overlooked, and still part of the daytime signal. Most night-time lenses stop at blue.
Intensity of all light
How much light reaches your eyes at all, because dose matters as much as colour. Night+ blocks 87% of all light, for full protection.

Night+ addresses all three.

Through the Lens

This Is What Night Should Look Like

The deep red tint isn’t a side effect. It’s the mechanism.

Night+ blocks 99.9% of blue and green light, leaving the wavelengths your brain associates with darkness. It also blocks 87% of all light, so what reaches your eyes is dimmer as well as redder. That can look intense at first. It is exactly what your biology has been waiting for: biological darkness.

The world doesn’t disappear. Your screen still works. You can still work. Your conversations still happen.

But for the first time after sunset, your brain gets the signal that it’s night.

The Mechanism

Protect your sleep

Your brain uses light to tell the time. Not a clock on the wall. The light coming through your eyes.

When you look at a screen after dark, your brain reads that light as daylight. So it holds back the sleep hormone (melatonin), keeps your stress hormone (cortisol) running, and waits for the light to change. It does not matter how tired you feel. Until the signal changes, your body stays in daytime mode.

Night+ removes that signal. Your brain gets the cue it has been waiting for, and the process of winding down can finally begin.

The 2 Hour Protocol

Wear 2 hours before bed for deeper, more restorative sleep

our body begins preparing for sleep long before you close your eyes.

Around 2 hours before your natural sleep time, melatonin starts to rise, your core body temperature drops, and cortisol begins to fall. This is your biology's most important window. Artificial light during these hours does not just delay sleep onset. It disrupts the entire cascade: compressing deep sleep, delaying growth hormone release, and leaving your cortisol running when it should already be winding down.

Worn during these 2 hours, Night+ removes the wavelengths your body is most sensitive to, so the process your biology has already started can continue uninterrupted.

Beyond Any amber lense

Our most advanced lens. Blocks both blue and green light.

Most people know blue light affects sleep. Fewer know that melatonin suppression does not stop there.

Green wavelengths are equally capable of telling your brain it is still daytime. Night+ blocks 99.9% of blue light and 99.9% of green light up to 570nm, the most comprehensive spectral coverage in the Balterra lens system and the most complete filter we make for the hours before bed. See the independent test results.

The Right Light at the right time

When to Wear

Designed for Sunset to Sunrise

Our red Night+ lenses are designed for moments when any artificial light exposure can delay melatonin and disrupt deep rest.

Wear them from sunset to sunrise, including the early hours of the morning if you wake before daylight. Whether you’re winding down at night or navigating artificial light before dawn, these lenses shield your rhythm when it matters most.

Wear them:
– During your nighttime routine under indoor lighting
– While watching TV, scrolling, or reading at night
– In the early morning before sunrise
– During sleep interruptions (e.g. caring for a newborn)
– While travelling across time zones or on night shifts
– In any artificial light setting after sunset

Not for use during the day or outdoors.

For earlier evening wind-downs, choose our Amber Night Lens. For daytime protection, explore the Yellow Daylight Lens.

Frequently asked questions

When Do I wear my Balterra Blue Light Blocking Glasses

Use Daytime lenses during the day in indoor or screen-heavy environments to reduce eye strain and support focus. Switch to Night (Amber) in low‑light evening settings—dim lamps, or go Night+ (Red) under intense artificial light—TV's, phones, LEDs, or overheads—for complete circadian protection.

Can I wear my Balterra Glasses All Day

Yes — when indoors and exposed to artificial light. Our lenses are designed to support your circadian rhythm by filtering overstimulating blue light from screens and LEDs.

However, they’re not intended for natural sunlight. For best results, wear them inside — and let real daylight reach your eyes when outdoors.

When will I get my order?

Orders are typically processed within 1–2 business days. Once dispatched, you’ll receive a confirmation email with tracking details so you can follow your delivery in real time.

Please note: during peak periods or product launches, dispatch may take slightly longer — but we always aim to get your order to you as quickly as possible.

Can I wear Balterra glasses with contact lenses or prescriptions?

Absolutely. Our non-prescription glasses are perfect for contact lens wearers. If you need prescription lenses, we’re working on custom RX options — stay tuned.

What if the frames don’t suit me?

We offer a 30-Day Right Fit Guarantee. Try them on at home — if the fit isn’t quite right, return them in reasonable condition and we’ll help you find the right pair or issue a refund.

I'm so impressed!! I bought these after looking at the Huberman glasses but wanted to find a local Australian brand instead, after a bit of research I chose balterra based on their designs and scientific specifications. They are seriously like entering another realm when you put them on!! So relaxing and calming, my aversion to artificial light and screens at night time is no longer an issue!
Beautifully wrapped and presented, fast shipping and great personal customer service. Love them so much I've already ordered a second pair. Thanks heaps!

Hi Tash, thank you so much for your wonderful review! We're delighted to hear that you love our Night+ glasses and that they have made a positive difference in your evening routine. Your support and kind words mean a lot to us. Enjoy your new glasses and the sleep that comes with them!

They make me feel so boujee hehe! I adore the quality of the frame and the shape (as someone who doesn't even wear sunglasses so i didn't know how they would look on me) - The whole packaging experience is also next level! Highly recommend!

Thank you, Sahri! We're thrilled to hear you love the Alba - Night+ and enjoyed the little details of our packaging!

Very good quality. A little bigger that I’d like but I can make this work.

The quality of these is way better then I was expecting. They feel high end and not at all like something I bought online. I will be buying another pair with the day time lenses.

I purchased these glasses to combat the harsh effects from my iPad that I use late afternoon and night.
Glasses are certainly comfortable and of high quality.
I love wearing them at night but I can't really use them while I'm on the iPad or phone as they block out so well that its hard to read my screen.
I think the yellow or orange might have been a better option for me.
I do wear the red glass at night when I'm not on my gadgets.
I highly recommend balerra brand.
Cheers Dunc

Excellent! And so much better than I pair I had from another company. I feel myself relax as soon as I put them on. Makes a genuine difference to how I sleep too. Highly recommend

K
Kyle Duerden

Hands down the best blueblockers PURELY because they are a complete red, others are the orange tint which still lets in some blue light, but having the night+ red just adds that extra layer which other brands don't do. I fall asleep in minutes so I rate them highly

L
Laura Kavanagh

Excellent quality, love the style, and really comfortable to wear. Just be aware, the red lens is quite dark. If you're after glasses you can wear whilst still being functional in the evening, go the amber.

Hi Laura, thank you for your wonderful review. You're right, our Night Amber lenses are a better choice if you want to stay functional in low-light conditions through the evening. Night (amber) lenses from Sunset onwards; Night+ (red) for 2 hours before bed.

These Horizon Night Red glasses are fantastic, beautifully made and very stylish (they even make this old bloke look cool!). Since I started wearing them, I fall asleep much faster once I’m in bed. They’ve become part of my nightly routine, and I wouldn’t be without them. Highly recommend!

I've been wearing the Alba - Night Red blue light blocking glasses for a few weeks now, and I've noticed a significant improvement in my sleep quality. Wearing them in the evening has helped reduce the overhead lights and my screen time's impact on my sleep + they’re comfortable to wear and stylish too! Couldn’t recommend more😊

These are the best blue light glasses I’ve ever worn! The quality is absolutely incredible. In comparison to my old blue light blockers these lenses block so much more blue light. I can’t live without these glasses. They’ve been a game changer for my sleep and nighttime routine!

A

I've had the best sleep ever since I started using these glasses. I put them on a couple of hours before bedtime, and have found them to be very effective. Great quality and so comfortable too.

E

The lenses themselves are the best I have seen on the market. They block out every bit of blue light in my home environment and when I wore them in the city late at night here in Melbourne—it felt like the quality of the red lenses were 100% blocking all the building lights, even LED advertisement screens.

The design is light-weight but strong and I’m loving using them daily. Sleep has improved and I notice the drop off in sleep quality when I don’t wear them.

Love supporting local too 🙏🏽🌞

These are hardcore good. I get sense not a single ray of blue light is getting past these guys. They feel sturdy and long lasting too. Nice
